The two are being held in Dauphin County prison, pending extradition to
New York on the murder charges.
Police say Tejada and Alston were squatting in the vacant apartment where
Nadia Vitels late mother had lived. When Vitels, who had come from Spain
to oversee the apartment, arrived she discovered the two living there.
According to news reports, Vitels was killed by blunt force trauma after
being thrown against a wall.
A duffel bag containing Vitels body was found on March 14 by her son who
went to the apartment after having been unable to reach her.
A day earlier, Tejada and Alston had fled to Dauphin County where they
were involved in a traffic crash in the 5000 block of Jonestown Road in
Lower Paxton and abandoned the Lexus belonging to the victim, authorities
said.
Tejada is being held in the Dauphin County prison on $50,000 bond. His
preliminary hearing on the charge of receiving stolen property is
scheduled for April 4. Alston also is being held in the Dauphin County
prison as a fugitive. Court dockets showed no Pennsylvania charges for
Alston.
The teens were arrested around 10 a.m. Friday in the 200 block Liberty
Court in York. It was the culmination of an investigation that included
Lower Paxton police and U.S. Marshals.
