New Yorkers flee over taxes, housing prices: 'The city literally spit us out'

They can all thank nigger lover Hochul for the changes in their lives.
They’re moving out.

A shocking 27% of New Yorkers are planning to leave the Empire State in
the next five years, with 30% saying they wish they lived somewhere else,
according to a poll from Siena College Research Institute released
Wednesday.

Affordability, ease of retirement, politics and crime and safety were
among New Yorkers’ biggest gripes, according to the poll. Among the most
dissatisfied: Republicans, independents, black people and those earning
under $50 thousand a year.

Here, New Yorkers share their reasons for fleeing New York.

Priced out of housing market
When Bonnie Grubbs, a teacher, and her husband, Alex, a musician and
arborist, outgrew their 660-square-foot converted two-bedroom co-op in
Clinton Hill in 2021, they found themselves priced out of bigger homes in
their $700 thousand price range.

And so they moved into a $3,000 rental on the border of Bed-Stuy — where
they were plagued by frequent power outages, rodent infestations and an
unreliable landlord. The last straw was when the ceiling caved in on them
after the upstairs neighbor’s radiator broke.

“My friends said the city literally spit us out,” Bonnie, 36, told The
Post.

In February of this year, they moved to San Antonio with Bonnie’s family
where they are living rent-free until they can buy a place of their own.

“All of our money was going to childcare, and all of our money was going
to rent. We were tight [with cash] in a way we hadn’t been since we were
freshly married in grad school. It didn’t feel good.”

Outgrowing roommates
At 26, Zoe Hines, a music publicist, is ready to have an apartment — one
that doesn’t involve roommates and flights of stairs.

She loves the convenience of city living, but says she’s sick of the
congestion and ready for a sunny start and more living space for her money
in Los Angeles. When she learned her friend in LA was paying around the
same price — $2,475 a month — to live alone and with more amenities, she
decided to plan her move for this June.

“The amount of space he had in his room — he had his own bathroom — it
seemed like so much more,” she said. “I feel like LA has more flexibility,
so that’s something I’m looking forward to. I want to switch it up and
have a calm lifestyle where everything is slowed down for me.”

Cash-strapped from taxes
Alexis Wilson and her fiancé Matt Andrews, both nurses, recently moved
from New York to southwest Florida with the hopes of starting a family.

They needed to stretch their paychecks and wanted to move to a state
without income taxes.

“When we moved we saw a drastic increase in our paychecks,” Wilson, 27,
told The Post.

They were also able to double their square footage in the Sunshine State —
plus they have access to a dog park, pool and gym.

“We were able to buy a house after a year and a half of renting, which I
don’t believe would have been possible in New York with the amount of
taxes.”

Aging out of state
Carol Anderson, 76, lived in her apartment on the Upper East Side since
1985. But by 2022, her maintenance was going up another 10%. She was
paying $3,900 a month in maintenance fees, another $3,200 in mortgage
payments and had she kept a car in the city, she would have been shelling
out nearly $800 for a parking space.

“I was in New York for $10,000 a month,” Anderson, who runs a successful
communications firm, told The Post.

“I don’t know how the middle class can really make it. Every penny I was
making was going to paying bills. I wasn’t saving anything,” she said,
noting that she unsuccessfully tried to refinance her home.

In June 2022, she decided to move down south to New Orleans where she’s
paying $2,200 a month in maintenance fees for a condo —and one-third of
what she paid in New York on real estate taxes, she said.

“I aged out of New York,” Anderson said. “I love New Orleans more.”

That's what happens when niggers run the cities!
Congratulations, Empire State progressives!

Your years-long campaign to drive out average New Yorkers via sky-high
taxes, job-killing regulations, soaring energy costs, pro-crime policies
and hollowed-out public education is working.

Per a new Siena poll, 27% of New Yorkers plan to leave the state in the
next five years.

That’s in keeping with our population exodus from 2022 and 2021, when New
York was a national leader in outflows.

Dive deeper into the numbers and the picture grows even grimmer.

Almost a third of New Yorkers have a negative view of overall quality of
life in the state — “only fair” (26%) or “poor” (6%).

Crucially, asked about “affordability,” two-thirds give a negative
response: 31% “only fair” and a full 36% “poor.”

No wonder, with housing growing ever more unaffordable and the jobs market
languishing: Everything costs more in these parts.

Also damning: 39% of New Yorkers are negative on the state being a good
place to raise children.

Given the largely atrocious condition of public schools here — some 57% of
New York City high school students as of 2019 weren’t ready for college,
for example, and 43% of respondents are Gothamites — we’re shocked it’s
not higher.

The data show 49% negative on feeling safe from crime (a figure that jumps
to 59% among black respondents).

This as the hard-left caucus in Albany blocks even modest fixes to our
insane criminal justice “reforms,” crime rises rampant statewide, and kids
kill kids.

Some 57% are negative on whether the political system works for average
Joes, which jumps to 69% among people making less than $50,000 a year.

So much for progressive policies helping the disadvantaged.

The shame of it is that clearly New York is a great place to live when
these issues don’t overshadow the good.

Nearly 80% said there were excellent or good leisure activities, a similar
amount said the state is filled with people they enjoy, and just over 70%
believe they have access to quality education and health care.

It is worth noting that those who took part are not recent transplants.

A whopping 78% of respondents have lived here for 20-plus years — which
means that the low quality of life and dim future expectations are pushing
out people with deep, real roots in the state.

The picture is beyond sad.

But for any rational observer, it’s not in the least surprising.

When Albany’s lefty ideologues jack up the cost of basic necessities and
rip apart the social fabric via terrible policies undertaken in the name
of “equity,” all New Yorkers lose.

Expect the bleeding to continue until the fanatics are no longer in
charge.

Translation: New York is such a great place to live that costs of living have been driven
up beyond the means of the poor.

Iow, "the poor".

What that actually means is that New York is such a desirable place to live, folks of
modest means have been priced out of living there.

I grew up in NYC and it is now a shit hole. It doesn't get the press of SF or Portland but it's
just as bad. Boarded up commercial property in Manhattan, homeless all over the place, gangs
running wild randomly attacking people, smash and grab in stores etc.
All due to liberals and defund the police, cashless bail etc.
Ride the subway and you take your life in your hands.

It's really in the boroughs that the prices are insane.
Take Brooklyn for example. It was always a melting pot that was affordable but now you have trust
fund babies and Asians with a LOT of cash (CCP?) moving in.

Two family houses in Sunset Park or Bay Ridge that sold for $13k in 1960 are now selling in the
millions.

And there are plenty of buyers fighting for them.
But they are foreigners. What happened in Manhattan in the 80's with China and Japan buying up
properties has now moved to the other boroughs like Brooklyn, Queens etc.

Regular working people can't afford these at all.

Go on Zillow or Redfin and look at what properties in Sunset Park are selling for.
It's insane.

Because residents are abandonning the city and no longer needing
homes there, demand will crash, and house prices will tumble down.

Won't matter. All the decent jobs are leaving and the same thing will
happen to New York that happened to Detroit. Companies dump it because
employees can't afford to live there, work and raise a family. The only
thing left will be the union parasites and when there are much fewer
people to provide services for, they will get the axe too.
